Meltdown - Part 2 - 179

[Complicated sequel, with NCIS cast, written by Bellisario. It is a fast paced, complex, detailed, convoluted dual plot with segways and lots of electronics. It didn't use JAG background music and was difficult to synthesize into summary.] The obsessive compulsive, no people skilled, Lt Cdr. Faith Coleman was assigned as Harm's defense counsel. She tried to steam roll over H until he backed her up. She resented his "job interview" questions and claimed that she had nine homicide defenses, all wins. He essentially told her to "sit down, I hope your legal arguments are as squared away as your briefcase." Gibb met Maj McBurney, the prosecuting attorney, who called it a "slam dunk"; and when Gibb told him that "I only got him because he was protecting his brother," McBurney said not to show "that kind of doubt" on the stand. Gibb said he was in a hurry to get the case over with. McBurney was doing his pistol quals and placed all shots in the head, because "it cuts down on appeals." McBurney was assigned Hs office by Chegwidden, and Coleman, Manetti's office. H told Coleman that he had met with Singer and argued, she left, he followed, argued some more in her car, phoned his brother Sergei using his cell phone so he could see her eyes when she told him it wasn't his baby, because he rarely believed anything S said. By the time the time of death was established, he already looked guilty, so decided to trust navy justice instead of navy cops and didn't cooperate with them. McBurney had the foul-mouthed, hippy, head-banger, forensic technician, Abby Scioto, wear a "professor" costume when testifying in court instead of her usual punk dress. There was a metal sliver in S's head, ferrous metal matching the railing at the overlook; blood of S on the concrete; a plane ticket for 6am Jan 6th in her pocket; also a Benzinger's napkin with Sergei's cell phone number in H's handwriting. Stomach contents was a bar mix within 2 hours of eating. During cross, Scioto had to remove her fake glasses to read and seemed to be discredited. Dr. Mallard (Duckey) said that the body, found Apr 22, had been in winter ice - "say about 3 1/2 months," 20 wks pregnant, severe blunt force injury to posterior skull, numerous fractures from going over the falls, and a tattoo of a "stalking leopard" was tattooed on her left buttock. She had died from drowning not the trauma.

Gibb interviewed H again without counsel. He just talked about finding no phone call to Sergei after being told of S's death. H said "that's what phone booth's are for." He told H that he seemed to have made a lot of effort to eliminate Sergei as a suspect. H retorted "that's how you got your man," Gibb replied "I know." On the stand, Gibb said the body was found 1.3 miles below the falls, car was found in a parking lot next to the falls, 2 sets of prints: S's and H's, H knew S was pregnant, unsure who the father was, denied the request for DNA sample, and was generally uncooperative. On cross, Gibb admitted he'd sent a request for H's DNA profile (illegal) which didn't go through. Asked why, he said "I thought at the time he was the killer." H wrote a note to Coleman to ask Gibb if he still thought so. Gibb answered: that his gut told him "no, he wasn't the killer." McBurney tried to chastise him at the elevator saying that he could handle circumstantial evidence but "screw-up's and flip flops on the stand, I cannot." Gibb's assured demeanor just left anything McBurney said fall flat. Abby called McBurney and had them all come to discover that a cover (military hat) found near the falls was actually H's. Gibb told Abbey that she better never call the attorney's again, to call him.

Gibb and his "director" were shown watching the interrogation of Amad bin Atwa on their "big screen television." bin Atwa had passed money to Hassan Mohammed some time during the past 10 days when they had lost track of him. Gibb was told to "wrap this JAG case up fast" so he could go interrogate bin Atwa personally. Gibb seemed to show Blackadder, who's brother had been killed by terrorists and wanted to be involved in their capture, a bit of antagonism. He had told her to mind her own business or she was fired, then told her she had two days to gather all the information possible on bin Atwa. She came back in a day with a CD of info, but it didn't have anything personal about him so he sent her back to do it right. She finally got the requested information on Atwa so Gibb left for his interrogation. Agent Tony DiNozzo told Blackadder that the case against H just seemed too easy, "it doesn't sit right" that the body floated for so far but the hat was found near the falls. Blackadder said "it seems alright to me."

Bud testified that he saw H grab singer by the elevator to get a dinner appointment with her, after she had originally said no. Coates said she overheard H and S arguing at Benzinger's. S was pregnant, H thought Sergei was the father, S denied it and said she was giving the baby up for adoption. Coates said that she saw the same anger in in H that she had seen in her father when he hit her mother. S left and H followed her. Abbey found quartz, feldspar, and kolimite in Hs hat - river silt, from the spring thaw, but nothing like that on S body. She said that the cover was a "spring thing" and couldn't have been in the river for 4 months, so it must have been a plant. They called Gibb, who was on a ship, and told him that he was right about H. Sergei had same blood type as H, and wasn't the father of the baby. Every Wednesday, beginning in May, S had paid for dinner for two with her credit card, at a different restaurant but at the same time. A canvass with S's photo brought up a "Tiramisu incident" and a waiter who gave a description of a sandy haired man. Also the plane ticket wasn't to San Diego (SAN) as they had thought but to Shannon Ireland (SNN)! Gibb told them to cross reference the description with the JAG security log for the past 4 wks to find someone with a grudge who had access to H. They told H that he was off the hook and H recognized the name of their suspect. He told them to "tell Gibb, I owe him." DiNozzo interrogated Cdr Lindsey about the $5,000.00 check he cashed the day of S's death, and its re-deposit the day after. Also hinted at "latent prints" on the hat. Lindsey claimed that S was blackmailing him about the baby and threatening his family. They had argued and he grabbed her when she fell over the railing. He didn't call for help because the river had already taken her and he was afraid. DiNozzo caught him in the lie because S's blood was on the concrete and she had to be picked up and thrown over the railing. He also told Lindsey that, with his blood type, the baby couldn't have been his either.

Gibb had a gourmet dinner with Atwa and impressed the man with his knowledge of cuisine. "Marines travel," he told Atwa, and asked if the food was what brought him to Nice. No, it was the women, Atwa said, and offered that the best food he'd ever eaten was in Toulon. Gibb argued that he'd eaten there last summer and the "kibbeh was bland, gouzi mushy and gmameh inedible." Atwa countered that the "gmameh he'd had there last week was incredible" so it must be a different cook. So they traced that 10 days ago the Hawala money brokers in Toulon transferred money to the Hawala in Tunis. Gibb's group had no "assets" in Tunis so the "people up the river" would want all the credit. Gibb called Blackadder and DiNozzo to the gulf. They found that 5 million in cash had been signed for, four days ago, by Khalil Sahari, the director of the Institute of oceanography in Tunis. Aboard the ship, also having large screen TV's and lots of computers, they "called up" that the institute had purchased an unmanned submersible for 5 million in Sorrento, that all the attacks had been within 4 days of picking up the money, all the ports with naval facilities within 58 hours sail of Sorrento - both Naples and Cannes were too secure. Gibb wanted a list of all the research vessels leased in the last year over 90 tons (needed to carry the submersible) and the name of the Deep Blue Explorer magically popped up on the screen, leased by Sahari's institute. He wanted the "coastal cops'" records of any "nav plans" filed to the area and found that the "Explorer" it was sailing for "Cadiz," which, when cross referenced in their computers, was found to be close to Rota Spain where a carrier had just pulled in after being in the Gulf. From a van on the dock they did face matching until they found that the captain of the vessel was really Mohammed. Blackadder was staring at the captain and Gibb had to tell her to stop, but it was too late they were spotted. The ensuing gun battle left a bunch dead and Gibb facing off Mohammed who was holding a live hand grenade. Mohammed dropped it and Gibb shot him then was blasted backward down the stairs. He lived and when Blackadder apologized with "I almost blew it," Gibb told her "what do you mean, almost?" Lindsey was said to have "copped a plea" to involuntary manslaughter for eight years in Leavenworth.

Ice Queen - Part 1 - 178

[Complicated conjoint show w/ NCIS. Lots of electronics and fast paced legal posturing.] Tommy, A boy scout, missed his target and shot his arrow into the woods, hitting a decomposed body. Agent Gibbs & Blackadder of NCIS investigated. Gibbs told Tommy he could "shut out" any bad dreams, claiming that he had seen something terrible when he was young and done it. He gave Tommy his card and hat and promised a tour of the department. They found a decomposed body with it's face eaten away by crows; but, not its hands or feet. Blackadder, bantering with agent Dinozzo, revealed that her brother had died in the attack on the USS Cole. The Medical Examiner, called Ducky, estimated the death to be about 3 weeks previous. The body was a blond, pregnant, JAG officer. The first of many odd "flashback" type episodes (shown in posturization effect and apparently representing the view of the corpse) seemed to prompt Gibbs that the body hadn't been dropped there but had floated into the trees. They were all shown letting themselves through security into MTAC, where they watched as Amad Ben Atwa was captured. He was the terrorist who had given explosives and money to Hasan Mohammed who had then executed the attack on the Cole. Blackadder demanded that she be allowed "in on the kill" and Gibbs faced her down that the agency wasn't for her personal revenge and she better "get it" or pack up and leave. They had a discussion about obtaining the baby's DNA to "finger" a suspect at JAG - and Blackadder was the only one who worried that it was illegal to use military DNA for anything but ID'ing military personnel. Gibb's intended to use it, if he could. Found a metallic sliver embedded in corpse's skull.

Gibb and Harm bristled at each other from their first meeting. Chegwidden turned down H's request to conduct a concurrent JAGman investigation. C intervened in the argument and took H to calm down. H wouldn't say anything about relation with Singer - who they deduced was missing. Then C realized that Gibb's was "setting them up" allowing them to talk because hearsay wouldn't apply when Gibb's questioned C he would have to tell everything that H had said. H said "he wouldn't be that devious"; C replied that "he reminds me a lot of you." C then called Gibb's on his plan and said that "the only thing H told me was that he didn't kill Singer or know who did." They found blood on a bridge that matched Singers. Manetti revealed that the bartender had told her Singer was seeing a civilian - thereby revealing H's unofficial investigation - which then Mac showed that she didn't know about. Blackadder wanted to go for H's jugular but Gibbs said that H was so good that if they didn't tie up the pieces H "would do an OJ, even without a defense attorney." H called Sergei from a pay phone. He was preparing for his wedding to Galina, had been in country 3 weeks earlier, hadn't seen Singer since H had made her call him, and believed Singer when she said that the baby wasn't his. Abby, a weird nurd-like, path tech said that Singer had died within 2 hours of a snack at a bar, and found Sergei's Moscow cell phone number on a Benzinger's napkin. Ducky surprised them all with findings that Singer had been frozen and therefore killed between the 4th and 6th of Jan. The fetus' blood type showed that H couldn't have been the father.

Gibbs was shown in private conversation with "Director" (Morrow) who asked about their "prime suspect." Gibbs told him it was H. "Director" told him that, as their top interrogator, he needed to wind up his murder investigation quickly because he was needed to extract info from Atwa who intel said was planning another "grey hull attack." Coats told Gibbs of hearing H's heated discussion with Singer at Benzinger's. Marines found a Navy hat near the murder site and H's fingerprints were found in Singer's impounded car. Gibbs interrogated H at his headquarters. He hadn't read him his rights so H postured that he could leave. Gibbs threatened to tattle to C, so H stayed. Gibb's played mind games with H, trying to entrap him. Blackadder emailed Gibbs to "read him his rights" but Gibb's didn't. Dinozzo told her that Gibb's was "setting him up." H banged his hand on their two-way glass, causing feedback in their microphones. Gibb's got harm defending Sergei and bullied him into saying that he had written Sergei's phone number on a napkin from Benzinger's for Singer. While H was making excuses for Sergei, Gibb's began telling him his rights. H said he waved them and forcefully asked Gibb's if, with his experience, he could tell if someone had murdered someone. Gibbs claimed that he could so harm demanded him to look into his eyes and "ask me." While Dinozzo was cuffing H, Gibbs continued his attempts at entrapment by deceitfully asking "would you kill for your brother?" [Continued in next episode]

Boomerang - Part 2 - 101

[Continuation of a confusing- on many levels- but somewhat key episode] Brumby (Brum) continued to bait Harm (H) with his insipid smirk, especially regarding Mac (M) and rubbing oil on her etc. H had to dress in a wig for court then right out of the box embarrassed Brum for his lack of providing even proof of death. The judge chastised him and gave custody of Lee to the defense on the desertion charge. Outside the court, Lee was attacked by, Barry Toohey, the friend of Dunsmore's who was keeping watch when Dunsmore went to attack Lee. H pulled Toohey off Lee then Lee hit Toohey. Brum pulled Toohey off then stared at H. They both said "let go" and did, then reared back to take a swing at each other. Seeing it, B jumped in the middle and was slugged from both directions breaking his jaw in two places. C flew to Australia in a rage to "keelhaul" H; but, B (going through M as interpreter for his wired-jaw mumble) let them both off the hook. M was the only one who understood him saying she had "learned the language" when her father's jaw was wired for 3 months. C didn't believe B, so made H and Brum go into a warehouse and duke it out until reaching "as much pain as they inflicted on B!" M invited H to dinner and tried to have a romantic conversation with him. H was very uneasy and she opinioned that "you're just this way with me, aren't you?" He said "yes, only with you." She responded "I suppose I should be flattered" and he said "you should be, Sarah." At Luna park they discovered that there couldn't have been a cleat to trip over so Lee and Jenny had lied. Back at court, both all beat up, H and Brum began again. C and M set together comparing their ratings over the speeches. Toohey continued to lie on the stand claiming that Lee "never owned a knife and was killed by that sepo bastard." H calmly proved that he was deliberately lying. Brum smugly presented documents of Lee's previous marriage and called Jenny to testify against Lee. H countered with documents of his own that Lee had married Jenny after being declared dead in Tennessee which should have prevented her testifying but the judge said "this wasn't Tennessee" and allowed it.

H had to have the judge keep Brum "a respectable distance" from the witness; but Brum was able to manipulate her reenactment of the stabbing to his advantage. She, however, surprised everyone by saying she "couldn't lie anymore and Lee had stabbed Dunsmore." Lee told H that he had put everything they owned into Jenny's name when he was arrested so H began tailing Jenny. They got video tape of her leaving her 2 times per week "art class" amorously with "Harold" which they presented in court. She finally recanted and said she lied because she wanted Harold and Harold wanted money. Lee was found not guilty then talked H into letting him have the night to go try to "save his marriage." That night M finally went to dinner with Brum who completely threw himself at her saying he would "make ANY sacrifice." He proposed while she was looking up at the Southern Cross; but, when she hesitated he insisted on her "wearing the ring on the other hand so when she decides she can change it." They both then saw the boat Uluru sailing by with Lee, Jenny and Harold all celebrating their deception. The next day they were all at the airport awaiting Lee's return, expecting just to return for his perfunctory separation. They arrested him for desertion and H said he wanted to go for the death penalty for doing it in a time of war. C mused that the death penalty might not happen but "life in prison is a slam dunk." They met Clayton Webb at the airport who thanked them for not blowing his cover. They had seen him several times, unacknowledged, while they had been there. Each time with a different girl and speaking a different language. Boarding the plane M embraced and kissed Brum. C advised H "you win some, you loose some." Then "don't look back." He did anyway.

Boomerang - Part 1 - 100

[A confusing but somewhat key episode] During the Vietnam war PO Kevin Lee of the USS Chicago and Ian Dunsmore of the Australian Navy had a fight over Dunsmore's old girlfriend, Jenny Brooker, when the Chicago docked in Sydney Australia. Jealous, Dunsmore, with his buddies, started a fight then continued it alone on an amusement park dock. He pulled a switchblade then was killed in the tussle when they fell on his knife. Lee, having been forced to marry a girl who was pregnant in Tennessee decided to switch identities with Dunsmore and married Jenny under the name Tom Kingsley. After living in Woolgoolga, in the bush, they eventually moved to Sydney and opened the Uluru restaurant. When their home was burgled a policeman recognized Jenny then eventually arrested "Dunsmore" aka Lee aka Kingsley. He wouldn't talk until JAG was called and Brumby (Brum) called Chegwidden (C) to request Harm (H) and Bud (B) come down to handle the case. Mac (M) was upset that Brum would "sink so low" because he had been trying to get her to Australia ever since he left. He offered plane tickets and sent her water temperature Emails daily. Then, knowing she wasn't requested, she was really upset- Harm said: "he's one smart dingo." When they arrived Brum talked to Bud but ignored H then offered to let H drive thinking he would make a fool of himself driving on the left side. H played into it and gave them a harrowing ride; but, then parallel parked the SUV with ease before announcing he had learned to drive in the Bahamas (on the left side) as a kid. H and Brum stare, smirk, snipe, snarl and malign each other the whole episode. After Brum had snarled accusations at Lee, hell-bent to convict him for murder, and H had calmly tried to find the truth, B told them there were "real good at playing good-cop/bad-cop." In unison they responded "who's playing!"

Washington DC was buried in a blizzard and M caught cold. H called to convince C to extradite Lee for trial but was turned down. Brum smugly sniped that only H had ever been uncertain who had jurisdiction and H told him that "one day they would strip blouses." Brum retorted "the question has only been when!" H believed that civilian courts would handle it but then found that Brum had gotten appointed prosecutor and was upset. C apparently left it up to Brum's Australian CO to inform him that H had been appointed defense counsel(?!) M volunteered and finagled a trip to Australia to accompany the "real" Dunsmore's body back. C quipped to Gunny that he wished he could be there to see the story (H, M and Brum) unfold. Immediately upon Ms arrival Brum became "on-the-make" and convinced her to go to the beach with him. He whined at her about wearing an "Australian bikini" (hat and bottoms) over her objections just to tie her straps behind her. [it wasn't shown if he complied or not] B and H saw them sitting together believing she was topless. B thought he was talking to gunny about the topless beaches but Harriet was on the phone and spent the rest of the episode in a snit. Brum took H and B to lunch unknowingly at the Uluru restaurant where Jenny overheard them talking and ran away. Talking with Lee, B said that desertion charges were usually dropped and the Irony was that his wife Jenny's testimony would probably be believed if it was against him but wouldn't be now that he was married to her. H voiced his disrespect of Lee saying that "my father died doing his duty and you lived running from yours." Lee asked "how can I trust that you won't let them hang me?" and H responded "because, like my father, I do my duty." When H finally got to talk to Jenny she "parroted" her description of events and told them "you don't want to know what I really remember, because it would hang him." (Continued to next episode)

Soul Searching - 83

Harm's (H) Corvette was stolen and he got hung up in the telephone menus to the police when trying to report it. Brumby (Brum)flippantly told H that it probably had been chopped up so just let it go. Mac (M) finally helped him report it to a detective friend of hers who didn't hold much hope either. Harriet (Ht)drug Bud (B) to car lots in order to buy a minivan for their upcoming baby. She succumbed to a hot shot salesman and wanted a van with all the bells and whistles which cost more than B made in a year.

Webb froze and didn't fire when his mentor Tim Fawkes was kidnapped in Italy by Teresa Marcello of the Red Brigade. She was "freelancing" for the Serbs in order to work a "trade" but the "company" wouldn't even acknowledge Fawkes. W attempted a rescue, without "company" authorization, which failed, to the hurt of Italian police who were helping him, because they seemed to be warned beforehand. W came to request Chegwidden (C) for his help knowing that Fawkes had saved Cs life in Vietnam. C said "he saved my soul." They needed Enrico Amati, a mafia don, to tell them were Fawkes was being held. It turned out that C had killed Amati's nephew while rescuing his daughter Francesca. C acknowledged that Amati needed to fulfill his obligation to his families vendetta but got Amati to delay notifying his sister for 24 hours. They obtained some satellite surveillance time and found that Marcello was moving Fawkes and kept looking up to the sky. They realized that the terrorist had been told they were being photographed by George Decker (CIA station chief) who was in charge of the CIA's "non-response." Actually he had been paying some money each month as "option" until he could get the million dollars authorized that they wanted. C coerced him into helping them "pretend" to pay ransom. C told W that many years previously he had been assigned to take out a person who was using drugs to interrogate captive US soldiers and obtain intelligence. Fawkes had been the "spotter" who was to call his shot using a baseball analogy code. Fawkes realized the person was a nun and didn't call the shot so C didn't need to shoot her. They decided to use the same analogy to rescue Fawkes. Decker was wired so his conversation could be heard by W and C stationed around the money drop point. When Fawkes called the shots they took the two terrorists out before they could detonate the radio controlled explosive vest they made Fawkes wear for the money transfer.

While C was gone, H was acting JAG and attended the budget hearings. He and B decided to put the money needed to repair the courtroom ceiling and roof from the bullet holes he made, into the building health budget. The police found only the frame of Hs Vet in a chop shop after the rest had been stripped and sold. M, who was with him, retrieved Hs gear shift knob for him to put in his new car. He decided to get an off-road vehicle, emotionally unable to replace his vet. Ht forced B to accept her fathers money to buy the minivan and M bought a red vet, much to Hs dismay.

Gypsy Eyes - 64

[The long awaited follow-up from last season's cliffhanger which left Harm and Mac in Russia flying their stolen MIG into a cloud and followed immediately by a missile which exploded. Probably the most pivotal episode in the entire series and includes many of the Russian characters we have met over the past years, unknowingly a prelude to this episode. It has a somewhat complicated plot with difficulties in understanding all the motives; but, provides "closure" to at least one of the sub-plots - or does it?] Before the missiles hit Harm and Mac in their stolen MIG, they went into a cloud and punched out! Gypsy brother and sister, Vasya and Ruszka, found H hanging, conconscious without his helmit, in a tree and tried to steal his silk parachute. H was rescued from a knife fight by M who hadn't gotten hung up in a tree, had a gun and money for a bribe. Major Mark Sokol (aka Falcon, KGB) was actively trying to find them. He was connected to Parlovski (also KGB and who had sent H the photo of his father in Russia); but, both were trying to keep their affiliations a secret from H and M. The SECNAV was more than willing to accept that H and M were both dead (from hitting a flock of migrating geese during a 'demonstration ride') as the Russians were claiming. Chegwidden, however, wasn't and had to tell the SECNAV "you don't want to try and stop me" from going to Russia to investigate.

Alexei, the cab driver who took H and M around and arranged their MIG ride, picked Chegwidden up at the airport. Chuck DePalma, ZNN reporter, told C that: "it's September and geese don't migrate in Russia until November"; the Russian pilot had been taken to prison by the KGB; and, Alexi was really working for Sokol. Actually, through the show, Alexi was shown working for: Sokol, Parlovski, the Russian Mafia AND Webb. Webb appeared in Russia and disclosed that ONE of the KGB agents (either Sokol or Parlovski) was procuring six nuclear tipped missiles for the Mafia, which they intended to sell to the highest bidder. Alexei was tracking them all and couldn't blow his cover. Webb said that he didn't know which agent was rogue so C realized that H was being used as the bait. So "whoever kills H and M is your man," he mocked at W!

Meanwhile H and M were traveling with the gypsies who, partly due to the money they were given, befriended the two. Ruszka had a dream where she was bathing in a small pool when four Russian soldiers began attacking her. H came to her rescue but had to fight off her brother who was trying to stop him. H then shot and killed three of the soldiers but was killed by the fourth. The gypsy, who claimed to have been having these type of predictive dreams since she was 12, thought that it meant H would be killed in Russia. H convinced Vasya to take them to the train station. Sokol was there waiting for them. He called out for H and M to show themselves and promised that he was trying to protect them and that he would take H to Beloyka to find his father. M convinced H to follow her intuition and believe her that Sokol was NOT the one trying to kill them..

C, W, Alexi and the Russian CIA office agent were in Alexi's taxi at the airport, watching what would happen. They had intercepted a call to Parlovski that Sokol had found H and M and was bringing them in. W revealed that whoever was the rogue agent was the same KGB agent who had arranged for Harm's father's train transfer to Russia. Angry, C took Ws gun and said that if W had gotten H and M killed he would "put him in the ground" as well. Sokol landed with H and M alive, so they realized that the rogue agent had to be Parlovski. W continued to want to wait and see who Parlovski led them to, even when Parlovski's driver was going for his gun! C slammed his foot on the gas and commandeered the cab through the fence and came out shooting. He killed Parlovski's driver. Parlovski shot Sokol and H shot Parlovski several times; but, then before Parlovski died, H begged him to tell where they had taken his father. He whispered... Suischevo. H was surprised to see C and Webb there. He asked W what he "was doing here" and C replied "getting decked" before he slugged W on the chin, knocking him to the ground.

H & M found a woman in Suischevo, Pitchta, who, many years previously, had found Rabb Sr. in her barn after he had escaped from the work gulag train. R had then worked with her family for two years, never told them who he was or where he came from; but, she said, always looked toward the horizon. She showed H where she, her Brother and Tete (the name she called R) had gone to picnic one day. Then, she described the details of the same incident that had been in the gypsy's "vision." It had been Pitchta who the soldiers were attacking and her brother who had tried to stop "Tete" from intervening. Then she added that her brother, seeing Tete's bravery, had killed the fourth soldier with his bare hands. He had buried all their bodies in the Taiga forest near their home, never revealing the location to anyone lest they were seen visiting the graves. But, he had also died fifteen years previously. The woman became upset reminiscing over her "Tete" and H let her hold him. H turned to the forest and said "goodbye dad, I love you."

Death Watch - 57

[An important episode which explains Harms back-story on Diane Shonke as well as flushing out Krennick's story using flashbacks. It also gave producers the ability to use much of the footage shot in the final episode of year one and never shown due to cancellation] Harm looked at his letters, cards and memorabilia of Diane Shonke his former girlfriend who was murdered and who was the "spitting image" of Mac. As he was loading his weapon M came to his apartment for a planned working dinner. He tried to put her off but she saw the weapon, the pictures of Diane and demanded an explanation. H told her with the story with flashbacks. He met Diane at the academy. He went for his wings and she to "crypto" school. They "missed more than they connected" but were going to spend the week at her parents cabin to "discuss their future together." Diane stood midwatch on the bridge of the Seahawk with Cdr Holbarth their first night back in port, then left the ship followed by an anxious Lt Lamb. Ensign Bud Roberts was watch officer as well. The next morning, coming back from breakfast at a diner, B found Diane dead in her car. H and Meg investigated with NCIS agent Brian Turque (tur - kay) who continually tried to protect his turf from the "hot shot." When he realized H and Diane knew each other he demanded he be released from case. Chegwidden said "only God and I can release one of my investigators- and he hasn't asked." Krennick suggested that she go take lead and H take orders from her. C told her she "was devious," but said ok. When M ragged H about K being enticing H said that it wasn't about sex. "I was a rival, the hotshot. It was about power and she wanted to control me with sex." She wanted the "admirals chair." M said that B told her "H threw her more red lights than on the beltway at rush hour." H said "I wouldn't get involved with a superior officer any more than you would."

K excluded H from interviewing Lt Lamb, a key witness who had lied and said he was chasing her because he had a date with her that weekend. Lt Sarah Williams said Shonke felt she was being stalked. K confronted Holbarth about not reporting Shonke's harassment complaint and H ran after Lamb who had left the ship. He confronted Lamb in the diner and accused him. When he denied it H slugged him and told a chief to report his indiscretion to the XO. Lamb declined to press charges. M took Hs weapon from him and said "it was lucky that you didn't have a weapon or you might have shot an innocent man." H told her that Krennick was going to send him to a captains mast to "distance myself from you." When he said it could ruin his career, she said "better yours than mine." But K started being stalked! She thought it was Lt Lamb doing it but they found him dead with a suicide note on the computer. M said "but you didn't believe it was suicide did you?" H said the computer keys had been wiped, the gun was different, and the gunshot was on the right side but Lamb was left handed!. H left into the rain and into his car but M followed, still demanding that he "prove his case" to her. She said that she already was an accessory- especially if he pulled the trigger tonight. H said he had just found out two weeks earlier by checking Lambs service record. M exclaimed "why would all THREE of you miss that?!" H said because "we were too busy dealing with each other." Turque had returned Shonke's letters to him, after he had read them, in an effort to "part like men." H led M into the conclusion that Turque was on the Seahawk during the trip and his change of attitude was because the case was closed. She surmised that Turque was the killer and H said he had a letter in the apartment that showed it. When M got out of the car, H drove off.

Dripping wet, M had B come into JAG. He had passwords and codes to use government databases. He admitted that he had been on the Seahawk and knew about the case and that Turque wasn't on board! In fact he wasn't in town at all. M asked B "what was she like?" He said looked identical but "talked different and was a lot more fun." [i.e. you're more squared away.] B discussed the two other suspects were Lt. Williams (for being suspected of being gay) and Holbarth (because when K talked about his not reporting Shonke's harassment charge- he was really sweating). They found that Holbarth was onboard the destroyer Sheppard which docked tonight at Norfolk. H waited for Holbarth to come off the ship and confronted him. He showed him a letter that he had finally read from Shonke's lock box. It was unsigned, inadmissible in court, but was a draft of the original which was sent to Holbarth. It said that "your failure to address my complaint leaves me no recourse but to seek redress through channels. Will file complaint when we dock." He had tried to talk her out of it while standing watch with her, then, failing that, sent Lamb after her to talk her out of it thus setting him up as the fall guy. Then he killed Lamb as a suicide. Holbarth said this assumption would be thrown out of court and H said "I'm not going to court" as he pulled out his weapon. Just then M called "don't do it harm" through the mist dressed in Harriet's dry uniform that she had changed into. Holbarth, thinking she was an apparition, panicked saying "I didn't mean to… I'm sorry…" and backed up off the dock. He was crushed between the pier and the hull. As they stood on the dock H kissed M. She said, "I know you were kissing her." He didn't disagree.

Ghost Ship - 39

[A very pivotal episode in that Harm finds critical information which eventually leads to him finding closure about his father. Not only with an artifact but with "networking" into the KGB.] Alameda country was trying to raise the money to refurbish and keep up the mothballed carrier, USS Hornet, for use as a museum. Two fortune seekers, Sibby Le Negro and Andy Kochifis, were cut torching into the "void" between the inner and outer hulls for possible artifacts when they found the skeleton of Lt Brian Tate, who served with Harm's dad. Tate was clutching a "Skoshi Tiger" patch worn by Vietnamese F5 pilots and wearing an unmarked "go to hell" watch. Chegwidden sent Harm and Mac to investigate and Bud reluctantly stayed behind for research. H remembered his childhood visit to the Hornet with his father when he got to set in a cockpit. Harriett went to the military archives with Bud for research and met an "old flame," Millie Shaker. Flummoxed, Bud said he was looking for the "USS Horney" records. A man introducing himself as "Mark Falcon" of the Alameda Police said he was "on his own time" and joined H and M in the investigation. Falcon said he had been an army MP in Saigon for a year and that the salvagers were looking for "something else" cause they didn't need to torch into the void in order to calculate a bid. Hs dad had flown "167 missions over the north, half of them off the Hornet." H had his mother send his father's audio tapes from her home in La Jolla then used them to "take a walk with my dad." [Then they used eerie music and odd camera angles to make it look as though he was being watched.]

The autopsy showed the skeleton was 25-30 year-old Caucasian, died from blunt force trauma to back of head, and had the patch clutched in his fist. When Falcon seem incredulous about keeping old records, H quipped "this is the navy we have Popeye's enlistment papers somewhere." They found the skeleton's name and that he had gone "missing" on Apr 30, 1975 - the day Saigon fell. M told H that B had been without sleep for 34 hours and 24 minutes so H asked how she did it. She quipped back "my mother was Swiss." H reverie'd about carrier takeoff's then into the hanger bay and finally "down to the O2 level where Tom Boone and I billet." H fell, hitting his head, and when he awoke saw a shadow looking down at him before M, Falcon and Le Negro found him. Le Negro tried was arrogant and tried to convince H that he had broken through a chain barrier. Falcon and M went to question Andy and when he stonewalled, Falcon grabbed him by the gonads to force his explanation that they had been looking for the gold that was rumored to be in the void since the fall of Saigon.

Bud notified H that a Skoshi Tiger, Col Nguyen, had also been aboard the Hornet on that day but was lost on a flight to Guam with a SOG officer (cover for CIA in Vietnam). Then after his call Webb brought B a pizza- and information that he found the KGB was also on the track of their investigation. Harm continued his "walk with his dad" alone and was visited by a man (who he thought was his dad) who led him into a berthing compartment before he passed out. H was found the next morning by M and Falcon who called an ambulance. While Falcon was away M revealed information from Bs second call, namely: Nguyen's plane had been sabotaged after he had boarded the Hornet with a list of names that he wanted to trade for the good life in Paris-- American MIAs that the Russians were holding in Russia at the end of the war. Nguyen had approached 2 CIA agents. One had been on Nguyen's flight the other "went missing" after the war and was thought to have been a double agent. H conjectured that Nguyen had killed Tate, and hid his body in the void, because Tate had seen where he had hidden his book. The berth that they were in wasn't Hs dad's so he believed to have been Tate himself who had led him there. H looked behind a grill in the wall (where his dad had said that he and Boone had hid their bourbon) and found the book - with his dad's name in it! They were just leaving when they were trapped by a fire (possibly set by LeNegro). H, still woozy from his hit on the head, saw the personage of Tate again who led them down and around the passageways to an exit.

H was hospitalized for 2 days and asked B to tell W thanks. W replied that "his dad paid that debt long ago." B told Ht that he "just wanted one girl in port-- her" and she asked "does that mean we're going steady"? When H and M appeared at the Alameda police office to retrieve the book from the evidence room, they found: 1) a boy delivering a pizza (same actor who later played Bud's brother "Mikey"); and, 2) that Falcon was a black officer who had never seen them before. "Falcon" was then shown on a Russian flight with Hs book. Harm's voiceover said "I'll find him if it takes the rest of my life."

We the People - 25

[A bit 'far fetched'; but none-the-less a significant episode in that Mac's history and family is further elucidated. Unfortunately, it was never followed up on except a cursory tangential mention. This episode also introduced Hs new partner and an explanation for a frequently used 'excuse' for his odd personal behaviors.] Harm (H) was presented with the Distinguished Flying Cross by President Clinton for rescuing the unconscious Capt Thomas Boon (the CAG) and landing on a carrier despite his 'night blindness'. Bud Roberts, (B) attending law school at night, was introduced as a new JAG assistant in Hs section. He had been recommended by Meg (Mg) before she left. Sarah Mackenzie (M) was introduced as Hs new associate, to replace Mg. Clinton told H that he may single-handedly give lawyers a good name and when B acted the "doofus" Chegwidden (C) had to tell him that "joking was Admiral's Privilege." H had flashbacks to Lt Diane Schonke, a fiancé' who had been killed, every time he looked at M; because, she was a "dead ringer" for Schonke. And, he now has a new loft apartment that he is renovating himself.

The US Declaration of Independence was being transferred to a document restorer in California and the "mail truck," which was carrying it, was hijacked, by Ms paramilitary militia uncle flying a marine helicopter. Webb (W), posing as an assistant to the State Department, told C that the investigation was "States" and he should butt out. C, however, said: "yes but it's my navy" then forced W to take B along with H & M. B continually annoyed W by interjecting facts which proved to be true. When M tried to "ditch" H, he landed in a helicopter in front of her car. He was upset with her for not telling him that it was her uncle, Matthew O'Hara, who had stolen the document. She said that she thought he already knew because "someone had pulled her off a double murder investigation" to do this... so they must have known. Her former Marine Col. uncle had won the medal of honor in Vietnam and was a "politically principled" man, she claimed. They went to find O'Hara together. O'Hara took over a ZNN van and transmitted a television message that the "defenders" had the document. One of his men, Cahill, phoned the government later and said they wanted $500 million ransom. H called the stranded tag-along, B, who whined that W wouldn't let him in a van which had all kinds of antennae. H then realized that their conversations were being "bugged" so told B, in 'code' that if W gave him trouble he had permission to use "admirals privilege" on him. Then they swapped cars with a gas station attendant to avoid the "bugs." The attendant used Hs phone in the swapped car, which tipped off W. W wouldn't take B with him to find H; and, when asked why, recounted that it was "admirals privilege!" B then knew that he had a "wire tap" in place and threatened to tell C that his people were being bugged, which is illegal. B got to go with him.

H discerned that W had 'set up' M, knowing her connection with O'Hara. They flashed their headlights at the base of Devils Tower to signal her Uncle, who was hiding out in the cave where he had taken the 16 year-old M to "dry out" and hunt for dinosaur track fossils. M faked taking H prisoner to fool the 'defenders'. H convinced O'Hara that he'd made his point and to give up an return; but, his mercenaries wouldn't let him because of the $500 million they expected to get. When O'Hara claimed that he hadn't known anything about the ransom, Cahill was killed. The men forced O'Hara to fly them out in the helicopter, taking M with them as hostage. H jumped and held onto the skid as it flew off devils tower! M fought off the mercenaries and threw one of them out the door, all the while H just held on to the skid. The document dropped out of the helicopter, but was in its case and was recovered by W. H offered to defend O'Hara in court and was shown doing it at the end; but no outcome was given.

Skeleton Crew - 22

[A "cliff hanger" which, because the show was cancelled by NBC, was not aired - until it was syndicated by the USA channel. To date it is still rarely, if ever, shown; and, I've just now seen it on the season one DVD. Catherine Bell, who played Lt Shoenke, only had a very brief role - but she was later brought back as "Mac," who was then explained as "a dead ringer for Diane." Patrick L. who had been in the pilot but took another position before the show was picked up, is now back in the series as Bud Roberts.] Lt. Diane Shoenke, Jr. OOD, left the just-returned-from-deployment USS Seahawk (CVN-65) after standing mid-watch the first night back in port. She was pursued by Lt. Lamm who was upset that chief Bannon had let her off the ship in the Officer of the watch, Bud Roberts (B), absence. The next morning, while eating breakfast at a shore diner, B and Bannon found Shoenke shot dead in her car. Brian Turque (pronounced turkey by everyone but himself) was the NCIS agent aboard the Seahawk investigating the case when Harm (H) and Meg (Mg)showed up under Chegwidden's (C) orders. H was visibly shaken and told Mg that he and Shoenke had been in the Academy together and were supposed to have had dinner together last night except she called to postpone due to mid-watch. Turque (Tq) demanded H to pull off the case but was told that she had been "like a sister and I'm not leaving the murder investigation to someone who jumps to conclusions as much as you"! Then, to further he own political agenda Krennick (K) devised a plan that she would go be "lead" and H would "be under me" in the investigation. C agreed and had to tell her that she was "sitting him my chair"!

Immediately upon arriving H had to tell K that Shoenke had been his academy classmate and their relationship had been platonic. K initiated her customary harassment of him until H finally had to shut her up with a "red light." K bellowed that any relationship on a ship could NOT be platonic "unless one was gay and the other neutered." H gave her another "red light" but she still continued to wile that she was just trying to help him defend against Tq's demand to have him removed from the case. H told her that the rules at the academy were perfectly clear and that they both "played by the rules so long they might not have known how to do it any other way." He further told her "I don't care I don't care what you or Tq think about it and if you have any decency you won't ask me anything personal again"! The executive officer (XO) Commander Hobarth was in charge of the ship while the captain had been called to Washington. He had stood mid-watch himself, as he claimed was his habit the first night back in port, with Shoenke (the Jr. OOD) together on the bridge. Shoenke had only been aboard the ship for two months after she had replaced the former crypto officer who went home after his wife was killed in an auto accident. Lamm was the communication officer for the mid-watch in the communication room and told Tq and Mg that he run after Shoenke because he was supposed to have a date with her, and that Shoenke had previously told him that "someone was stalking her although she didn't know who."

B tried to explain the ships deck and compartment numbering system to K but she said "it gives me a headache." Then K began sensing someone watching her. Tq began questioning Sarah Williams, Shoenke's roommate, about possible "one-night-stands" in Hs presence. K pulled H out of the room and made a big deal about H not rising to Tq baiting because he only wanted to get them pulled off the case. Sarah said that Shoenke loved H like a brother and had gotten hit on a lot because of her looks. She said that Shoenke had given Lamm "red lights" several times but he was "one of the type who doesn't get the message" so she had had to report him to Hobarth. K then lit into Hobarth for not reporting her concerns and withholding the information from the investigation. Sarah told Mg that Shoenke was not like other beautiful women, she listened as if you were the only person in the room; and, that she really loved H and had saved all of his letters, which Tq had taken out of her lock box.

When Mg told H that Lamm had left the ship for lunch H tore after him thinking that he was going to run. He found him in the diner and confronted him with his lie about having a date with Shoenke before he decked him. When Bannon pulled him off, H said to confine Lamm to the ship and then report his own assault. Lamm said "what assault… I can understand how someone who loved her feels." K came after H and began harassing him again. She lit up a cigarette, and when was told "no smoking" by the waitress, said defiantly "stuff it"! K filed charges against H as "damage control" saying she had "to distance myself from you"! "I'm not going to risk my career over your pining," she told him, and "better your career than mine." Hobarth was shown watching their discussion through binoculars from the bridge. K was shown being followed when she got lost on the ship. She called security and was told that the had to go down a level then come back up on the other side. The stalker turned out the lights just as she pushed through a secured hatch. She defiantly blustered at Hobarth and security when they were slow to believe her complaints. Hobarth said that with a skeleton crew they normally cut back lights. While trying to find Lamm, believing he was the stalker, they found him shot in his quarters with a suicide note. K was shown telling Tq that she was wrong about him after thinking that he "was a rent-a-cop more concerned about control than solving murder." He told her that he had though she was just another hot shot female lawyer who thought her sweat didn't stink"! She replied, "It doesn't." K told Hobarth that she didn't intend to put his non-reporting in her report but couldn't guarantee someone else wouldn't charge him -- just not her. He replied that she must "find me callous with 2 deaths and me worried about my career." She said, "No, I find it refreshingly honest."

B was told by Tq not to "hand over any more faxes to H" so he "accidentally" dropped a copy of the autopsy report at Hs feet. Mg said she would read it so H wouldn't have to. Going back to his cabin to shower before he had to go back to JAG for his captain's mast that K had arranged, he found Tq in his compartment and all Shoenke's letters. Tq said that even though they had met like junkyard dogs he hoped they could part like men, and shook Hs hand. But, when Mg told H that the report said Shoenke had been raped, then shot, then moved to the car 2 hours later, he realized that Tq really suspected him of the murder and had been searching his room. He asked Mg to check with all the MPs to see if they remembered Shoenke leaving. After leaving the ship, H was shown being arrested by Tq on the dock, claiming that Hs fingerprints had been found on the murder weapon which they had recovered from the water that afternoon.

[I can see now why this episode is so rarely shown as it was intended to be the season "cliff hanger"; and, although the resolution episode may even have been written, it was never filmed. So this story is incomplete and leaves one hanging in disbelief.]

Survivors - 18

Col Matt Anderson's son Trevor was being moved away from his father by his divorced mother. The boy began calling his father by a nickname known only to him and his childhood/marine buddy, "digger." The Col wasn't able to keep a promise that he had made to "digger" and bring him back from Vietnam. The mothers attorney, on his own, got an arrest warrant for the Col who was trying to take Trevor back to their boyhood cabin in order to somehow fulfill his promise. Deputy Terrance Hodge (a bitter ex-marine) manhandled Trevor while he was arresting the Col and was "decked" by the Col. Then Hodge lied about it, forming a manhunt. Harm helped the Col escape in a helicopter twice, frustrating Hodge who then got a warrant for Hs arrest as well.

Hodge's partner had to restrain Hodge from shooting H when H threw himself between Hodge and the Col who was carrying Trevor up to the cabin. H and Meg bluff Hodge about actually having a videotape of his manhandling the col and backhanding Trevor, so he let H go and the Col surrender to H without Trevor being there and witnessing his fathers arrest. The Col and Mrs. Anderson were getting divorced only because of the Col's career - (which he doesn't have any more.) H and Mg don't believe in the psychic link between Trevor and "digger" until Trevor, in sort of a trance, turned and gave them a "diggers" thumbs up.

Hemlock - 15

Meg received a fax of "Shepard's" itinerary from someone who was breaking into the British Naval Intelligence building to use their computers. He was nearly caught and transposed the last two numbers of the fax. H went for a check-ride until about noon which really "ticked-off" Krennick who was burying them with scut work from another agency who had "overflow" to make points. H & Mg figured that "Shepard" was some dignitary, and possibly classified, so he locked it in the safe while he went to lunch with an Annapolis friend, now in intelligence, Bruce Carmichael. When H mentioned "Shepard" Carmichael nearly choked but stonewalled H and told him to "shred it immediately" but nothing more. The man who broke in came looking for Mg to find his fax posed as . While she was giving it to him K came in then stormed out when she found that H was gone again. A few seconds later she came back in just as Mg was being shot and nearly missed being shot herself. K inflicted her egoistical personality on everyone alienating the doctors and nurses trying to save Mg and H had to continually "bite his tongue" in order to work with her. She continually wanted to "involve state," H said "so she could make points," which was probably true although he had to apologize. H went to "Ollie" (Col Oliver North) who came and stayed with Mg through her surgery and recovery. He told them that "Shepard" was Boris Yeltzin who was coming to sign a ban on nuclear material sales to Pakistan. Also that it was the illusive, and unknown "Hemlock" who was assigned to assassinate Yeltzin.

K had an artist sketch drawn up of "Hemlock" as she was the ONLY known person to have seen him, thus making herself a target. Chegwidden said he'd been kept up all night with calls from people who wanted him to "call of his dogs because they were messing on peoples lawn." Instead he told H & K to "go get 'em." Ollie recommended a computer nerd who hacked into the government personnel files and found a custodian who had been hired but didn't have a photo in the database. He had a copper lined old house which was "bug-proof" and extracted a date from K before giving them the information. When they arrived at Ellzey's, the custodians, house, Carmichael and the SWAT team were already there. A gun battle ensued followed by a single shotgun shot. They found the person inside had "committed suicide" destroying his head to prevent recognition. H blasted down Carmichael, blaming him for stonewalling him and preventing them from taking precautions for Mg. Ollie didn't believe that it was Hemlock who had killed himself and H, later, discovered a bomb in Ks car which had been placed after the supposed "suicide." When they told Carmichael he was still angry with them; but, followed them to the Hotel where the signing was to be held, and got them through security. Hemlock, a master of disguise, got through security playing several parts and hiding a gun in a lobster. K recognized him, as he saw her, and ducked his shot, which hit Carmichael who was behind her. Hemlock joined the confused Russian security who was shuttling Yeltzin out of the hall. H gave chase but had to dodge a massive barrage of gunfire from the Russians. Hemlock escaped and removed all his disguise so H didn't recognize the driver of an escaping car, which he had stopped by unloading his gun at it. K finally caught up and ID'd Hemlock.

During her coma Mg "dreamed" of her deceased father who took her for a horseback ride. As she awakened her father was telling her that "it wasn't her time yet." She mistook Ollie for her dad as she woke up, then asked H "how was lunch."

Smoked - 14

Krennick was sexually harassing Harm in her new job as aid to the New JAG, A. J. Chegwidden. "AJ" as he is called, was head of JAG in the pacific. He was a former SEAL in Vietnam who transferred to the fleet to command a destroyer then got a law degree and joined JAG. Krennick said that he had "gone from one branch of the service to the next, surfing the crest of them all. He eventually wanted the CNO position, like Adm. Arleigh Burke, who was chosen over the heads of many others by the president because he was "aggressive." Krennick said that because H was the "shining star" he was a threat to her ambitions. When H said "I'm not that good or ambitious" she said "that is one of the reasons I want to sleep with you," and "as long a you serve under me, you'll have a tough time earning a sea scout badge."

Chegwidden sent H & Mg to Cuba w/ K, telling him to sabotage the software in a downed F14 before the Cubans could download the technology and trade it for Iranian oil. H went up to the cockpit of the Lear Jet which was flying them to Cuban and helped fly. Cuban, Capt Fuentes shot at their Lear jet but missed, due to Hs acrobatics. Jack Keeter, an old roommate of Hs was the pilot of the downed F14 and H worried that he might have "screwed the pooch," probably intentionally. Without telling Bair, the weenie from the State Department, H use a Cuban Contra to cause a diversion in the hanger with his horse so he could slip in and rig an explosion using his belt in the intake. When Blair found out what H had done he confessed that he was really a NSA agent and Keeter had been on a black op to "let the Cubans have some software" which had "virus" code in it that would disable aircraft which 'locked on" to US aircraft. But the code, he said was in the last chip, so if the plane exploded they would have the good code but not the bad.

H then went back and told Fuentes of: the phony Blair, the software was "fake," he hadn't known about Blair when he sabotaged the plane, offered to disable the "bomb" if Fuentes would cause a diversion and let him escape, Iranians didn't need to know, Cubans would still get their oil, everyone would "save face." Fuentes said "ok" but he would have to give chase and try to shoot them down. H agreed and he and Keeter took off chased by Fuentes. They reminisced about spending some time in the Caribbean with a girl, who H could remember better than Keeter, and decided to go visit her again. Fuentes caught up with him and fired a missile just short of the border of the airspace. H went into a power dive and pulled out at 100ft causing the missile to miss and explode in the water. K entered Hs apt unannounced, expecting to bully herself into her threatened tryst, then stormed out, after finding Maria Elena Carmelita Moreno Gutierrez in the shower.

The Brotherhood - 13

[A very weakly written plot, hokey and barely believable at times] Marine PFC Terrance Hansen was found beaten and in a coma on the beach during landing exercises. Dr Sanford requested an investigation of the Charlie Company of Capt Overton who has 2 times more injuries than other companies, mostly black. Sanford said that the companies investigation by Lt Teese was biased because "he reports to Overton." Overton, pouted his lips, tried to act like what he thought was a tough guy throughout the episode. Harm and Meg easily showed Teese's sloppy investigation, giving Overton what he wanted to see. H & Mg went through Hansen's locker and found photo's of people flashing gang signs. Mg said the signs looked like "hook em horns" from the University of Texas Longhorns. H descretely told her that in Europe the sign meant "You've been Cuckolded." [So Mg gave the sign to people during the whole episode… supposedly as humor?] Tyler, Hansen's brother was acting like a tough guy and eventually found to be in a gang. While H & Mg were looking over the beach, Overton had his camouflaged men surprise attack them. H was disgusted and told Overton that action had just told him that Overton was hiding something and when H found out what it was his days in the corps were over. Overton said that C company had more injuries because they trained harder- "the harder they train, the less bleeding they do." A sergeant told H that Hansen "didn't fit in" and "wasn't with the program" but there were others, and he listed three. H asked "how many are black" and was answered "all of them."

Overton tried to intimidate and obstruct H & Mg until they call him on his apparent racism. Top of his class, Hansen had asked for east or overseas billet but got stuck w/ LA & Overton refused transfer. He requested twice more but Overton turned him down. (He told H that, he didn't like quitters) H found Overton and his men digging on the beach and was told they were looking for mines. The a man asked "is this what you are looking for" and it was Crack. H conjectured to Overton that Hansen had probably been beaten by the gang when he didn't want to sell Crack in the military and that he had been acting like such a know-it-all smart ass that Hansen couldn’t come to him for help. So Overton went to Hansen's hospital bed and began screaming and threatening and ordered him to wake up, and he did. He then told them that he had grown up in LA, was in a gang, and was assigned by their leader, "stick," to join "The Proud" so he could sell drugs on the inside. But the Marines reformed him and he tried to avoid the gang but they beat him and left him on the beach w/ case of crack. Stick was going to send his brother Tyler to the morgue on "mission" avenue if he didn't sell the crack- so Overton said he would get Tyler out. Of course, he went in alone and was overpowered. Then H & Mg arrived and uncharacteristically stupid Mg was overpowered so H offered to trade their crack for Overton. Then he got the black men of C company to surround the "trade." Overton tackled Tyler during the trade and C company took them rescued everyone. Tyler agreed to go to a youth boot camp (for discipline and hard work) to get out of the gang.

Desert Son - 5

The ner-do-well marine 2nd Lt, Jay Williams, son of the former marine commandant general Thomas Williams, was drunk while calling in range coordinates during a live fire exercise. He transposed the distance coordinates calling a round which wounded several men critically. H & Mg called off another case to investigate this one which everyone said was "open and shut" because Jay admitted to flipping the last two digits. This would mean the end of his Marine career, which is what he wanted as his father had "forced" him into the service. He resented his father partly because he continually compared him to his older brother Michael, who died in Desert Storm. Gen Larry Butler told H & Mg to go interview Capt Reed, who fired the gun, but who resented Jay being an officer "because of his daddy who had the 'button' (congressional medal of honor) from Vietnam." Reed impeded Hs investigation by ordering his men not to talk unless he was present. When H read him the riot act he "neglected" to tell H that the sign marking the "free fire zone" (FFZ) had been knocked down and they drove into fire. Angry H came back to talk to Reed and when he acted the stereotypical smart-aleck marine H decked him. Neither H or Reed would "fink" on the other in front of Gen Butler.

Reed told H to listen to the battlefield communication tape but they found it had been "degaussed" with 60hz hum. Gen Williams told H to basically "show no deference" to his son Jay who had never taken responsibility for anything in his life. His admitting flipping the numbers was completely out of character so H was suspicious of him. Reed's obstruction also pointed suspicion to him and 1st Sgt Hollis was so close to Gen Williams that he could have erased the tape to get Jay off the hook. Gen Williams described Jay's life long friend, Lt Boone, as "the only friend of Jay's I ever approved of." Mg told H she may be able to get the tape restored but wouldn't disclose that she was going to use an old family friend Oliver North ("Ollie"). Jay's girlfriend Tina ran a disco at a bar and told H that Jay wasn't really drunk, he only acted like it so he would be 'buddies' to his men and that she wasn't Jay's girlfriend. The platoon leader injured in the accident eventually died and H amended the charges to Involuntary Manslaughter so Jay changed his plea to not guilty and said that he had only switched labels on the tape "to protect Boone." The "real" tape showed that Lt Boone had kicked the numbers and Gen Butler talked H into leaving the evidence tampering charge up to his discretion under article 15. Jay got minimal punishment and went back to duty where he told his driver that it "was funny he DID range better sober than drunk."

Since Jay had long history of 'almost' being charged for things that were blamed on others, H listened again to the tape and found hiss on the digital tape. He believed that it was copy and that Jay had Tina alter the tape to blame the incident on Boone (who wouldn't get into as much trouble). "Ollie" was able to make a master tape from satellite spy radio conversations, which then proved the deception. Mg kissed Ollie when he gave her the tape and he said that "H will think you're my girlfriend." Mg replied, "That's the idea." When H and Boone went to arrest Jay he shot Boone then the radio, so they couldn't call in a helicopter. Driving away, H jumped on the vehicle and fought with Jay while they drove across the FFZ. When a shell hit, H was thrown clear but the vehicle flipped. As he was dying Jay said "why me." H, however, told Gen Williams that he had said "tell dad I'm sorry." When Mg challenged him on it, H said "that's the way I remember it."

Shadow - 3

A malignant, computer nerd, techno-pirate, consultant, Mr. Grover, took control of an experimental "shadow" torpedo with his laptop which was also rigged to blow up remote bombs strategically placed around the submarine Tiger Shark. Teddy Lindsey picked Harm up in a helicopter disturbing the morning jog of president Clinton (in a cameo). Meg Austin is assigned to H now as Adm Brovo had made Caitlin Pike his aid. After the senate had grilled Lindsey on the Sea Hawk incident, Brovo told him to "get out of dodge." Transporting to the Tiger Shark in inclement weather H was about to pull Mg back up and she un-hooked dropping into the ocean. H jumped in 50 feet after her. Captain told them that Grover was demanding 40 million in gold and to be taken to Cuban waters or he would cause the Shadow to blow up a cruise liner. From his laptop he had caused the Shadow to dive below a thermocline but, when the sub followed to slip above it again looking like it had disappeared. Grover was an arrogant SOB who blew a bomb to show H & Mg he "was prepared to die."

H discovered that Mg was claustrophobic on sub and told her that he didn't like her because she had not disqualified herself. Mg said that she had broken computer codes in less than 30 seconds - and as long as three days, but that was in Chinese. Mg wanted to take Grover's laptop saying that his claim he needed to "contact" the Shadow randomly or it would attack was "bogus." H, however, wanted more proof and got Grisham, the sonar operator, to look at the tapes. He found a "fish fart" that revealed Grover's "trick" with the Shadow but agreed with Mg that he couldn't still be in touch with the Shadow. They deduced that a limited range "repeater" was placed in the new sub's hull along with the strategically placed bombs. H told Mg to go "sit with" Grover and she balked at having to "play the faint hearted female." He told her "she didn't need to PLAY," making her angry. Adm. Drake told Teddy that the president had agreed to pay the ransom and to take it out of their budget. He told him to: 1- deliver the gold to the Shark; 2- deliver Grover to Cuban waters; and 3- (most important) if he accomplished 1 & 2 his next assignment would be on the Arizona (at the bottom of Pearl Harbor). He said "get it back."

When the captain told H that his job was over, H had Grover arrested and took his laptop. Mg got close to breaking the code. She got through 4 levels, 2 booby traps and a fake program; but, she didn't think she could complete in the 20 minutes left. H noticed that all the bombs had been place in non-critical spaces so Grover wasn't REALLY prepared to die. He brought Grover to the bridge and set up a ruse that they had broken his code. He showed him turn the Shadow but it then targeted the Tiger Shark. The Captain took all kinds of evasive measures to no avail and, finally, Grover told Mg the secret pass codes to detonate the torpedo without actually harming any ship. Only afterwards did he realize he had been tricked. Sailing on the surface H & Mg were alone on the conning tower. She told him that she knew he was only making her mad to take her mind off being claustrophobic. He told her she was "ok," and he wouldn't mind being teamed with her again.

JAG (2-Hour Pilot) - 1

[This was the pilot episode which introduced: lazy JAG admiral Brovo, simpering "Teddy" Lindsey his legal side-kick, ex-pilot turned lawyer Harmon Rabb and Harvard law graduate Kaitlin Pike. The character, later to become "mikey" also had his debut as fisherman's son Antonio as well as the CAG and Bud Roberts.] Antonio and his fisherman father watched as the CAG and his Radio Intercept Officer (RIO) Angela Arruti, flew overhead to engage a Serbian fighter jet. Resenting women on a carrier, the CAG tested Arruti by ordering his wingman to "watch his six" while he took on both of the Serb jets. He turned off their main missile, over Arruti's panic'd objections, and was able to destroy one jet with a smaller missile; then the other with their 20MM guns. Arruti really "lost it" and when she challenged the CAG after landing, he said that he "wanted to see if you had the guts for a knife fight... and you don't!" Coincidentally, a reporter was coming to interview her the next day for being a woman who had downed two planes; but, listening to her own recording that she made of her whining and fearful voice, she wrote a letter of resignation on her computer. She had a "butch" roommate, Lt Puller, who was a pilot who had made an enemy of Lt "ripper" Carter by beating him at weightlifting. Incensed, Carter had been giving her extra wave offs on her landings which hurt her flying record. Puller interrupted Arutti's writing and tried to talk her out of resigning; but, Arruti left, wearing Puller's "LOBO" flight jacket. She went to the fantail where the COD was tied down and made love to someone unknown inside the plane. On the way back to her quarters she got caught in a moving deck part and went over the side; but, she caught on some rigging and pulled herself back to the top. When she finally got back on top, she was again pushed overboard by someone also unknown.

Lindsey had to interrupt Brovo, who was watching Jay Leno, to tell him that Arruti was missing. Realizing the political implications of a missing femal pilot, Brovo told Lindsey to send the expendable "junior officer" Rabb who was less likely to intimidate the Sea Hawks captain. And, in case they needed to talk to the press, "a female JG who was easy on the eyes"- Pike. Bud Roberts was their host aboard the Seahawk and told them that the captain wanted to see them immediately. But, when Harm found that a reporter had been held incommunicado since the morning, he went to talk to him first. The reporter, De Palma, had met H when, at 16 years of age, H had gone to Vietnam to try and find his MIA father. De Palma agreed to "sit on the story" for 48 hours under the condition that he be given two rides over Bosnia in a jet. H revealed to the captain that someone had sent an anonymous encrypted message that "she was murdered" so they were there to investigate. The CAG asked H if his step-father, who was a Sr. VP at Chrysler, was still a "used car salesman."

H was harassed by a pilot, Lt Mace, about Hs crash, several years previously, in which his RIO was killed. Mace's RIO, Lt Painter, seemed to already know about the "being murdered" issue. Mace told them that Painter and Arruti were "tight in RIO school" but she had been "ice" on the cruise so far. Teddy had to wait until Brovo finished playing the clarinet before he could tell him that a Serb Terrorist had shot down a C130 UN relief flight with a MASH unit on board and that H still hadn't decided if it was murder or accident. Brovo told him that without incontrovertible evidence H's report must call it "accidental death" otherwise their investigation would be challenged in congress by either the feminists - if it was suicide, or the anti-feminists- if it was murder. "And," he said, "a junior officer always gets thrown to the sharks first."

Brovo was summoned to the Whitehouse by the first lady to talk about the Sea Hawk investigation. While there he met Adm Drake, who was lobbying for a naval "alpha strike" in retaliation for the downing of the UN flight, and suggested he use the reporter aboard the ship to "spin good press." Pike argued with the CAGs opinion that Arruti's death was suicide. She had her friend Zane, in crypto, restore Arruti's cassette tape of her mission, which Puller had erased. She also found from Painter that he had been Arruti's undisclosed husband and was the one who sent the encrypted message about her being murdered. While in the COD that night, he had talked Arruti out of resigning, so had been going back to her room to erase her resignation letter when she was killed. H & Pike confronted Puller who admitted to erasing the tape and the letter so she became a suspect. Painter also told Pike that the RIO, who had died in Hs night landing crash, was Mace's brother; which, was why he was so abusive to H. Arruti's body was eventually found by Antonio and his father in their fishing nets. She had died of drowning and had evidence of struggling on her fingertips. H noticed she was wearing a flight jacket with the name "Lobo" and had assumed that it was her call sign.

Resentfully, CAG took De Palma up for the flight that H had promised him and turned up the heat in the cockpit, did loops and pulled negative "g's," all designed to make him airsick and throw up. Then, when the alpha strike had finally been authorized and he was going up for an ATARS recon flight, the CAG offered to take De Palma up again for his second flight but he refused. H volunteered and was taken on the flight. The CAG had been Hs dad's wingman on the day he went down in Vietnam. In the flight H noticed that Puller was the CAGs wingman and was actually the one with the call sign "Lobo"; so, he realized that Arruti had been killed by mistake, probably by "ripper" Carter who thought it was "Lobo.". During the flight the CAG was shot and H had to fly the plane. He refused to "punch out" with the unconscious CAG on board and had to "fake" radio interference so he wouldn't hear the orders. The captain eventually told the air boss to let him land. Puller helped him with the alignment and checklist because he hadn't had a trap in 5 years. But Carter was the landing boss who H realized would probably try to give him a wave-off so he would crash. He radioed to Pike about Carter and she arrested him so he couldn't give H a wave off. H did land safely and saved both their lives.

In the hospital the CAG told H about being H's father's wingman on a similar recon flight over Vietnam. He said he "called the sandies and flew cap until he was bingo fuel. 5 minutes later when the sandies arrived Rabb was down. He had a tail wind and landed with 80 pounds of fuel so he could have stayed about 4 minutes longer over Rabb's punch out site, which might have made a difference to Rabb. He said he made a judgment call and has had to live with it; but, told H that his "eyes are not a judgment call and you have no need to 2nd guess." Mace was also shown giving H some aviators wings as a token of his getting over his anger. De Palma played up Hs rescue of the CAG on television and Brovo called him a "hero." Lindsey asked Brovo if he wasn't still worried about their finding of murder and Brovo said the sharks couldn't go after H because he was a hero. "If anyone goes it will be me," he said, "or you teddy." [Actually, and fortunately, when the show was finally picked up it was Brovo who left!]
